This view demonstrates intervertebral openings for spinal nerves. The first spinal nerve (C1) passes through the gap between the
arcus posterior atlantis
and occipital bone, and the last one – the spinal nerve C8 – through the intervertebral opening between the seventh cervical vertebra and the first thoracic vertebra.
